The time a retired coder at my local coffee shop pointed out my AI bias problem

I was at Brew Lab in Austin last Tuesday complaining to a friend about my image generator spitting out mostly young white faces. An older guy at the next table leaned over and said 'your training data is probably from a stale Reddit crawl, not real life.' He was right, I had just grabbed a pre-made dataset without thinking about where it came from. Has anyone else had a random stranger call out a blind spot in their work that actually made them rethink everything?

Wait, is a few skewed faces really that big of a deal or are we overreacting to a minor training glitch?

Wait, you actually think biased training data is no big deal?
