Warning: bacon in the air fryer will set off your smoke detector every time
Last Sunday I decided to make bacon in my air fryer for the first time, around 7 AM. I set it to 400 degrees like some recipe online said. After about 4 minutes, my kitchen filled with smoke and the detector went off. My neighbor actually knocked on the door to check if everything was okay. I had to open all the windows in January, which was miserable. Turns out bacon drips a ton of fat that hits the heating element. I've gone back to the microwave for bacon, but has anyone found a way to make it work in the air fryer without setting off alarms?

I read somewhere that putting a slice of bread under the bacon in the air fryer soaks up the grease and keeps it from hitting the heating element. Tried that trick last week with some thick cut bacon at 375 instead of 400 and it worked way better. Still got a little bit of smoke but NOTHING like before. The bread comes out all crispy and gross but you just toss it. Also helps to pull the basket out halfway through and drain the fat into an old can.

Why bother with a trick that just wastes bread and still gives you smoke? Just cook the bacon in a pan and skip the air fryer hassle altogether.
