Getting humbled by a torque wrench on a Bonanza nose gear
Spent a good chunk of Tuesday convinced my click-type wrench was broken because it kept popping early on the nose gear bolts, turns out I'd been storing it wound up to 40 ft-lbs for who knows how long. Borrowed a buddy's beam wrench to check it against and it was reading about 8 percent light at the low end. Anyone got a favorite way to verify calibration without shipping it out?
Borrowed a buddy's beam wrench myself once and now I check mine against it every few months, just hanging a known weight off the handle at a set distance to see if the click matches the math. Figured storing it wound up was no big deal until I saw mine drift about the same as yours. Costs nothing and takes ten minutes.
