three years ago i moved up to palmer and thought i could handle the winters

I came up from Seattle in 2021 with a Subaru and a stack of amazon boxes full of cheap gear. Last winter I found out the hard way that my battery blanket wasn't plugged in when it hit 40 below and my truck wouldn't start for three days straight. Anyone else get caught off guard by how fast things just stop working up here when it gets real cold?

Bought myself one of those big diesel heaters after that, figured I was a genius. Set it up in my garage, fired it up, and it ran for about twenty minutes before the fuel line froze solid. Now I just keep a sleeping bag in my truck and hope for the best. My neighbor says I should move back to Seattle, but honestly I think the cold is starting to grow on me. Or maybe that's just frostbite.

That sleeping bag in the truck trick almost got me last February when I slid off the Glenn Highway and had to wait five hours for a tow. My fingers still get numb just thinking about it. The real question though is how you handle the moisture inside your house when it gets that cold. I tried running a humidifier and ended up with ice on the inside of my windows and a puddle on the floor every morning. Do you deal with that too or is it just my cheap rental?
