Why does nobody talk about old snowmachine tracks cracking in the cold?
I was out near Palmer last Tuesday, maybe 8 miles from the truck, and my old Polaris track just split right down the middle... no warning, no noise, just stopped moving. It was about 20 below and the track was probably 8 years old, I'd been meaning to swap it out but kept putting it off. Had to hike back in the dark with a tow strap and hope nobody hit my sled before I could get back with a buddy. Turns out the rubber gets brittle after so many winters, especially if you store it outside like I do. I ended up buying a used track off a guy in Wasilla for $200, but now I'm wondering if I should have just gone new. Anyone else had a track give out on them in deep cold?
