TIL my neighbor saved $200 a month by switching to a graywater system for his lawn
He just ran a simple pipe from his washing machine to the backyard and his grass stayed green through the July drought without a single sprinkler running, has anyone else tried this for their own yard?

My dad actually did something similar back in 2018 after we got hit with a water bill that was almost $300 for just July. He ran a line from the washing machine to a 50 gallon drum he buried in the backyard, then let it slowly drip out into the flower beds. That single change cut our water usage by almost a third and the flowers looked better than they ever did with city water. It's crazy more people don't try this, especially when you see how much water just goes down the drain every week from laundry alone.

Three hundred bucks for one month of water in 2018, that's brutal but then again it sounds like your dad basically invented a free watering system for the flowers. My wife would probably kill me if I started digging holes in the backyard for a washing machine drum though, she's already mad about my rain barrel setup. I bet the flowers did love that greywater though, all that soapy residue is basically free fertilizer for them.
