Took me 5 years to realize my hose bibs were installed backwards

I've been hooking up my garden hose every spring and fighting with the threads for years. Turns out the previous owner put the anti-siphon valve on the wrong side, so water was backing up into the garage wall. My neighbor pointed it out while we were both out watering last Saturday and I felt like an idiot, the fix took me 20 minutes and a $9 brass fitting. Has anyone else inherited some weird plumbing quirk from the last owner that took way too long to notice?

Not sure I see it that way, honestly. Those anti-siphon valves are usually pretty picky about which side they go on and if it was truly backwards, you'd likely have water spraying everywhere the first time you turned it on, not five years later. Sounds more like the thing just needed a new gasket or the threads were worn down, and the $9 fitting was the real fix.
