Dub vs sub, finally switched sides after 12 years

I always defended dubbed anime, watched everything with English audio since high school. Then last month I tried the subbed version of a show I'd already seen twice, just to pass time during a flight to Chicago. The original voice acting carried way more emotion, especially in the quiet scenes where the dub added weird background noise. Now I'm catching up on three older series with subs and honestly, I don't see myself going back. Anyone else make this switch late and regret waiting so long?

wait, so the background noise thing, is that what finally did it for you or was it more about the acting style? cause i noticed subs make me pay attention to the little breaths and pauses way harder than dubs ever did. honestly curious if that's a common tipping point or if you just got lucky with a really good sub track.
