Fell for the hype around A Silent Voice BEFORE Your Name and totally regretted it

I kept hearing how A Silent Voice was this deep emotional masterpiece so I watched it first last month. Man, it was so slow and heavy I almost gave up on anime movies entirely. Has anyone else watched a super hyped show in the wrong order and had it ruin your mood for days?

Read something online that said watching Your Name first sets the bar too high for emotional payoff. Bet going into A Silent Voice cold wouldve felt totally different.

Figured I'd chime in cause I actually read something similar last week. Some critic was saying the order you watch Shinkai's films matters more than people think, especially with Your Name being this big flashy spectacle. @olivers28 I get your point though, going in cold to A Silent Voice must hit different since it's more grounded and quiet. But honestly I think Your Name's emotional payoff works on its own terms, it's not like it ruins everything else. A Silent Voice has its own kind of weight, the bullying stuff and the deaf representation felt way more personal to me. Maybe the bar thing is real for some folks, but I watched A Silent Voice after Your Name and still cried like a baby. Your mileage may vary on that one.
