Ran into a random stranger who completely changed how I watch anime

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last weekend and this older guy noticed my My Hero Academia keychain. He sat down and started talking about how he watches every episode with the director's commentary track turned on, even for bad shows. Said it helps him notice small details in animation and pacing that he'd never catch otherwise. Has anyone else tried watching with commentary or behind-the-scenes stuff, or am I missing out on a whole different experience?

That old guy figured out what most of us miss - we spend so much time rushing through new stuff that we never slow down to appreciate the craft behind it. Ever noticed how the same principle applies to everything from music albums to cooking shows?

That line about "not slowing down to appreciate the craft" really hit home for me, @aaron677. I started watching those 30 minute cooking show episodes years ago and realized I was just waiting for the final dish instead of paying attention to the techniques. One day I forced myself to watch a whole episode without fast forwarding and it totally changed how I cook now.
