PSA: I was wiping every fridge gasket with soap and water until a tech in Tucson set me straight
Honestly for like 12 years I cleaned every gasket with a soapy rag and thought I was doing it right. Then last spring a 30 year tech named Ray watched me do it on a Whirlpool in Tucson and said 'you're just pushing the grime into the fold, use plain warm water and a dry towel.' He showed me how soap residue actually dries out the rubber and makes it crack faster, and sure enough the gasket I'd been 'cleaning' for 2 years on my own fridge was split at the corner. Now I just use water, dry it good, and hit the fold with a little silicone grease every 6 months. Any of you got a better trick for the ones that are already hard and cracked?
