Talking to an old timer about ice makers changed my whole view on them
Honestly I've always hated ice makers. Leaks, jams, all that. But last week I was at a parts house in Denver and this retired guy starts telling me how he'd clean the condenser coils and replace the water filter every 6 months on all his service calls and never had to change an ice maker. Said 90% of failures are from people ignoring basic maintenance. Got me thinking maybe I've been blaming the machine when it's really the user. Anyone else find that certain brands hold up way better if people just do the simple stuff?

Haha "90% of failures are from people ignoring basic maintenance" - that hits hard because I'm definitely the guy who's been too lazy to change a water filter and then wonders why my ice tastes like old pennies. Maybe the machines aren't the problem, maybe it's just me being a neglectful parent to my appliances.
