That GFCI outlet in a crawl space took me 4 trips over 2 days
Kept tripping intermittently and I chased it through the breaker panel before realizing a previous tech had wired the line and load reversed behind a junction box. Anyone else ever get burned by a simple polarity swap hiding in a dark corner?

Wait, so the line and load were reversed AND it was still passing power through? That's wild man. When you finally flipped the wires around, did the GFCI actually hold the reset button on the first try or did it still act up for a bit? Ive seen those things read fine on a meter but just sit there clicking and tripping even after you fix the swap, sometimes they got fried from the wrong direction feeding them for so long. Curious if you had to swap the whole outlet out too or if just redoing the wires sorted it completely.

Most GFCIs survive that just fine once you flip the wires.
