Ground penetrating radar skepticism cured by a field test in Ohio
I always figured GPR units were overhyped for small digs, too finicky and pricey for what you get. Then last spring I rented one for a weekend survey near Chillicothe and ran it over a known foundation line we'd already mapped. It picked up a buried drainage pipe at 2.1 meters that we had zero records of, and the grid image matched perfectly after we dug a test trench. That one hit changed my mind, now I budget for it on any site over half an acre. Anyone else had a tool they doubted until a real field test proved them wrong?
I've noticed this same thing with kitchen gadgets and tools too, you write stuff off based on bad experiences until one day you actually use the good version and it flips your whole view. My buddy swore his stud finder was junk until he got a better one and found a beam that saved his whole shelf project. Sometimes you just gotta see it work once to get it.
