Tried growing tomatoes from seed for the first time and got 2 plants out of 24 packets
I bought a $15 mix of heirloom tomato seeds at the hardware store in Topeka, planted them all in starter trays, and only 2 sprouts came up after 3 weeks. Turns out I buried them too deep and kept the soil too cold. Has anyone else had better luck with a certain seed starting method?

Used to think planting depth didn't matter that much, but your story totally changed my mind on that. I've had way better luck with the "just barely cover them" method for tomatoes, keeping the seed trays on top of my fridge for warmth. A cheap heat mat would have saved you those 22 packets for sure, I learned that one the hard way too.
