Changed my mind about hiring a lawyer for a simple will
I always thought I could just use an online template for my will to save money. But after reading a post about a guy who messed up his executor naming and his estate got tied up in probate for 8 months, I paid a local attorney $350 to do it right. Has anyone else found that paying up front saved them way more later?

Did the lawyer catch anything in your situation that the online templates would've totally missed?

I was reading a legal advice column last month that really drove this home. The writer said online templates treat everyone like a simple, one-size-fits-all case, but the lawyer caught that my situation had a weird zoning issue that would have made the whole contract invalid. That kind of thing can stall a sale for months or even get you sued later on. Another thing I remember reading is that templates don't account for local laws that vary from county to county, which is scary if you're buying property across state lines. It's just too easy to miss something that looks fine on paper but is completely wrong for your specific circumstances.
