Bought a $200 paint thickness gauge, and it saved me from a bad deal last week
I picked up a used paint thickness gauge on a whim about six months ago for around $200. Last week a guy brought in a 2019 F-150 he just bought from a small lot in Phoenix, wanted me to check a weird ripple on the rear quarter panel. The gauge showed 18 mils on that panel versus 4 to 5 everywhere else, so I knew right away it had been smacked and filled. He ended up going back to the dealer with my readings and got them to knock $1,500 off the price. Has anyone else had a cheap tool like this pay for itself in one job?
