Just learned how much paint a full size truck actually needs and my jaw dropped

Honestly, I was doing a full respray on a 2022 F-150 last week, the kind with the crew cab and long bed. I figured I'd need maybe a gallon and a half of base coat, tops. Ngl, when I checked the tech sheet from the paint supplier, it said the total surface area was over 350 square feet. The guy at the paint store laughed and told me I'd need at least two and a half gallons just for the base, not counting clear or primer. I've been doing this for a while, but I guess I never actually did the math on something that big. It just felt crazy pouring that much material. Ended up using almost three full gallons by the time I was done with all the coats. Has anyone else had a moment like that where the numbers for a job just didn't seem real at first?

Remember when they started making those giant crew cab trucks? I helped a buddy roll a single stage enamel on his old farm truck, just a regular cab long bed. We used a quart and had some left over. His new truck is basically a studio apartment on wheels, and I'm pretty sure you could paint my whole garage with what it would take. The sheer amount of door jamb and roof real estate is wild.

Three gallons just for the base coat... that's a swimming pool of paint. It's hard to picture that much material just sitting on one vehicle. The scale of modern trucks is just unreal.
