Switched my stance on tire age after seeing a 7-year-old set crack open on the highway

Watched a 2016 set of Michelins separate at the tread on a buddy's F-150 last month, and now I'm running date codes before any used car leaves my bay; anyone else start checking rubber age after a close call?

oh man, same thing happened to me with a set of Goodyears from 2015. they looked fine but split right down the middle doing 70, scared the crap out of me. now i check the dot code on everything before i even think about driving it.

@taylor_flores nailed it, people treat rubber like it lasts forever in every tire shop and garage.
