Warning: I watched a guy lose his car in a Dallas tow lot, and now I question the whole door to door hauling thing
Last month I helped a friend move from Austin to Denver and we hired one of those door to door car haulers. The driver called us from a truck stop outside Dallas and said the pickup spot changed, then he asked for another $300 cash or the car sits there. My buddy paid it because he had no real choice. Two days later we found out the car had been parked in an open lot the whole time and nobody was watching it. So here is the debate. Are these cheap door to door brokers worth the risk, or should everyone just pay more for a big name carrier with a real bill of lading? I say the extra money is worth it after seeing that mess. What would you do if a driver held your car for cash halfway through the move?
