PSA: locking myself out of the coop for 4 days because of a $7 latch
Two weeks ago the old slide bolt on my coop door finally gave out, so I grabbed a cheap barrel latch from the feed store in Bend. I figured it was a 10 minute swap but the holes did not line up and I ended up drilling new ones, then the door would not shut flush, then a raccoon bent the whole thing open on night 3. Side one says just buy the $30 heavy duty latch and be done, side two says a $7 latch plus a $2 carabiner works fine if you mount it right. Took me 4 days and 3 trips to town before my hens were locked up safe again. What are you all using for coop latches that actually keeps raccoons out?
