I almost turned off Armageddon over the asteroid gravity bit, then ran the math on my own calculator
For 20 minutes I was sure the movie was totally wrong about a 1 mile asteroid pulling a space shuttle apart, but then I worked out the tidal forces on paper and got a value close enough that I honestly can not tell if the writers did the math or just got lucky, so what scene made you pull out a calculator to check?
Did you factor in the size of the shuttle itself though? Tidal force depends on how far apart the two ends are, so a longer ship gets torn up way easier than a small one at the same distance. Curious what numbers you plugged in.
