Shoutout to the guy at work who watched me try to build a simple pulley rig for 45 minutes
Last week my boss asked me to lift a 40 lb box to the third shelf using a single pulley, and I spent almost an hour rigging it up like some kind of TV ninja. I kept yanking the rope downward expecting the box to fly up, because that's how it works in every action movie I've seen since I was 12. My coworker Marcus finally walks over and goes, "You know a single pulley doesn't multiply your strength, right? You're just changing direction." I did not know that. So my whole mental model came straight from stuff like that Mission Impossible scene where one arm yanks a grown man off a roof, and it never once bothered me until I was standing in a warehouse feeling dumb.
