My kid's school banned "Christmas" from the winter concert, and I had to pick between signing the petition or letting it go
Back in October my daughter brought home a note from her school in Naperville saying the winter concert would not use the word Christmas anywhere, not in the songs, not on the program, nothing. About 40 parents showed up to the next PTO meeting and someone passed around a petition to bring the word back. I stood in the parking lot for a while trying to decide if I should put my name on it or just stay out of it. My wife said sign it, my brother said don't bother because it was just one school and one concert. I ended up signing, mostly because my daughter asked me why the word she uses at home was a problem at school, and I did not have a good answer for her. The principal said later it was about making everyone feel included, which I get, but it still felt like a weird line to draw for a holiday concert. Nothing came of the petition, the concert happened in December without the word, and life went on. Has your local school or workplace banned a word like this, and did pushing back do anything, or did everyone just move on?
