My bank's mobile app glitched and sent $800 to the wrong account
Last Tuesday morning I was paying a vendor for some new grooming clippers. Typed in the account number, hit confirm, everything looked fine. Two days later the vendor calls me saying the payment never arrived. I check my bank app and sure enough the $800 got sent to some random account with a similar number. Called my bank's customer service line, sat on hold for 45 minutes. They said it's a known issue with their routing system on the app. Filed a dispute claim and they say it could take 10 business days to get the money back. That's my whole operating cash for the week just floating out there. Has anyone else dealt with a payment routing glitch like this from their bank?

Oh man, that's rough. I had this exact thing happen with my credit union last year when I was paying a supplier for some inventory. The app just rerouted the payment to some account that was one digit off from the one I typed in. I had to call them every single day to get them to actually process the dispute, not just leave it sitting there. One thing that helped me was asking for a provisional credit while they investigate. They gave me $500 back the next day just to hold me over until they sorted it out. Definitely make sure you get a reference number for every call too.

Same thing happened to my buddy Charlie with his PayPal account. He was paying his landscaper and the autofill put in some old email from like 2018. The money just VANISHED into some random person's account and PayPal was like "well you authorized the payment." He had to file a police report of all things and then snail mail it to them before they even looked at it. Took him almost three months to get his money back and the landscaper was sending him late fee notices the whole time. Now he triple checks every single payment before hitting send, drives me crazy watching him do it.
