Showerthought: YouTube comments in Brazil were way more open before 2018

I checked an old music video from 2016 and people were just roasting the government freely, but now everything is scrubbed or deleted within 24 hours. Has anyone else noticed that closed captioning laws ended up being a backdoor for content moderation there?

Hell yeah, I've noticed that too. It's like someone flipped a switch and suddenly the vibe shifted hard. I remember scrolling through comments on old Brazilian funk videos and people were dropping straight up political bombs without a filter. Now it's all generic heart emojis and "love this song" spam. Dude, same thing happened on some old drum and bass channels I used to follow. People were having full on debates about politics, culture, everything. Then around 2019-2020, comments just got wiped clean. The vibe totally died. What worked for me was finding smaller, less moderated communities. Places like private subreddits or Discord servers where people actually talk about the music instead of just posting emoji hearts. It takes some digging, but the real conversations still exist, just gotta look in the corners nobody's policing.
