My library's 'banned books' display got shut down because a guy thought one cover was too scary
I work at a library in Reno and last Tuesday we put up a banned books week display, complete with a big poster of a classic dystopian novel. Some guy marched up to the desk and demanded we take it down, saying the cover alone was 'promoting violence,' so our manager made us swap it for a blank shelf. I ended up taping tiny handwritten notes to each book explaining where and why it got challenged, and we got 12 new sign-ups for our book club in two days. Has anyone else had a display backfire, or am I the only one whose library drama made the local news?
