My town's Facebook page removed every comment I made about the new water tower project for a solid week.

Honestly, I used to just shrug when I saw stuff like that. Figured it was just messy online drama. But last year, our local group kept deleting any posts asking where the park renovation money went. They called it "off topic." That's when it clicked for me. It's not about keeping things tidy, it's about shutting down questions. Makes you wonder what they're trying to hide with your water tower, right?

Ugh, that park money story is SO familiar. It's never "off topic" when it's something they WANT to talk about, right @tessagibson? My old neighborhood board did the same thing with speed bump requests. They'd delete every thread, saying it needed a "formal petition." But posts about their summer BBQ? Pinned for weeks. Once you see that pattern, you can't unsee it. Makes you look at every "rule" as just a handy excuse.

i managed to write a post satirically enough it seemed to agree with the OP at first so it stayed on our local news one for a while but sadly it got enough likes they found out and removed it. Saying our beach access would be much better if they find another way to charge us for it. Some people even unironically were agreeing. Terrifying experience all around. Not recommended.
