Rant: My local HOA shut down my newsletter after 12 years
I used to put together a little neighborhood newsletter in Phoenix, just letting folks know about garage sales and who had a lost dog... then I wrote a piece about HOA fee increases being too steep. They called it "unauthorized distribution" and banned me from posting it on the community board. Has anyone else had a HOA or board stop you from sharing info that wasn't even that spicy?

Hang on, let me get this straight. You wrote about the HOA fee increases, which is literally part of the HOA's own financial reports that are public record, and they called that "unauthorized distribution"? That doesn't make any sense at all. The newsletter was for things like garage sales and lost dogs, not secret government documents. If they're trying to say you can't share information that's already out there for anyone to see, they're basically admitting the increases are too high and they don't want people talking about it. It's your community and your money, not theirs to control.

Maybe they're worried a newsletter showing the increases could hurt their chances of selling units in the future.
