That 1950s diner owner who booted me for asking about the pie recipe

I stopped at this old place off Route 66 in Oklahoma, the kind with cracked vinyl seats and a jukebox that only plays Hank Williams... Asked the waitress why their chess pie was so good and the owner came out, told me I was being nosy, and asked me to leave. Three years later the place closed and I still wonder if the recipe was some family secret or just boxed pudding mix they didn't want me to figure out.

Funny enough, my grandma used to get kicked out of diners for asking too many questions about their pies. Guess it runs in the family. Always figured the best recipes are the ones people guard like gold, even if it's just boxed pudding mix. Now I just stick to burning frozen pies at home so nobody has to worry about me stealing their secrets.

Think about how many things people treat like that in life though lol. Same energy as the auto shop that won't tell you what they put in your car or the old lady who says her secret ingredient is love but it's clearly a specific brand of vanilla extract. Everybody's got this one thing they act like is some kind of sacred family ritual when half the time it's just store bought tricks. It's like we all agreed to pretend certain stuff is magic just to keep life interesting.
