That time my local HOA board banned me for quoting the bylaws back at them

Stood up at a meeting in Arlington last June to point out they needed a 2/3 vote to raise fees, not just a simple majority. They censored my newsletter submission the next week and said I was being 'disruptive'. Anybody else dealt with an HOA that treats the rules like suggestions?

Man, that Barb sounds like a piece of work. I mean, it's wild how they act like you're the problem when you're just reading their own rules back to them. I had a similar thing happen with my HOA in NoVA where I pointed out they needed a formal vote before adding a pet fee, and they just gave me this blank stare like I was speaking a different language. Then they started calling me at all hours to "discuss my concerns" which was basically them trying to bully me into dropping it. It's like they think the bylaws are some secret code only the board gets to interpret.

Got banned from my own HOA's Facebook group just for posting a screenshot of the page that said "All decisions require a simple majority vote" right underneath the part where they tried to make a new rule without one. The admin lady, Barb something, said I was "creating a hostile environment" by point out their own rules. I guess facts are hostile now in their world. They really treat the bylaws like a suggestion box that they can just ignore when it doesn't go their way. Classic HOA move, punish the person who actually read the contract they signed.
