Dropped $60 on a VPN to dodge a ban, and now I can't tell if it made me brave or just broke
So about 5 months back I got my main account nuked on a sports sub after a mod deleted a post where I argued the refs handed a game away, nothing wild, no slurs, just a hot take with a stat line attached. I was mad enough to spend $60 on a year of a VPN so I could make a new handle and keep posting in the same threads, and for a while it honestly felt great, like I beat the system. Then it started to eat at me because every time I typed something now I was doing the math in my head first, is this worth losing the whole year of service over, and that little wedge of fear is exactly what the ban was for in the first place. On the other side, my buddy in Boise says rules are rules, if a sub bans you then sneaking back in just makes you the guy who can't take no for an answer, and honestly some days I agree with him. But here is the thing that bugs me, the ban itself cost me nothing real, it was the $60 and the paranoia that got me, which feels backwards. So weigh in here, was the VPN money well spent for keeping my voice, or did I just pay $60 to hand a mod even more power over my head. Which side do you land on and has spending cash to get around a ban ever come back to bite you?
