My IT guy at work said to use a fake name on forums. Got banned in 9 days anyway.
Back in March I started posting on a local news forum about a city council vote in Fort Wayne, and my coworker Derek said to just use a fake name and a burner email so nobody could trace it. I did exactly that, picked "Jim in the 05" as my handle, and got a solid 9 days of arguing before the mods banned me with a note saying my IP was flagged. Turns out Derek was half right, the name hid nothing once they checked where I was logging in from. He never mentioned that part, which would have been useful before I wrote 40 comments defending the zoning thing.

Sounds like Derek just told you the easy part and skipped the part that actually matters.
