That $50 VPN subscription got me booted from Reddit in 20 minutes
I paid for a year of PrivateVPN after seeing it recommended on a privacy sub. Used it to post in a politics thread about census data and got a permanent ban for vote manipulation within 20 minutes. Turns out the IP was flagged as a known spam node and Reddit auto-banned anyone using it. Emailed support three times and never got a human reply. Anyone else burned money on a VPN that ended up getting you shadowbanned instead of protected?

Had a buddy who bought a year of VPN service after seeing it hyped on Reddit. He posted once in a gaming sub and got perma-banned the same day for "ban evasion" even though he'd never been banned before. The VPN company never answered his emails either.

Oh man, that "ban evasion" thing is such a mess. Your buddy's story is exactly what happened to me a few months back. I signed up for a VPN to try a different Netflix library, and the very first time I logged into Reddit with it on, my main account got hit with a permanent ban for "ban evasion." I had zero warnings, no history of any bans. The VPN company's support was basically a black hole too, I sent two emails and got nothing back but automated junk. It's like the whole system is designed to screw people who are just trying to do simple stuff like watch a show or post in a game sub. I honestly think a lot of these VPN deals on Reddit are just paid ads and the service is garbage when you actually need help.
