My friend's joke meme got zapped fast, now we're debating free speech online.
Last week, my friend shared a meme on a big social site. It poked fun at a news story from that day. I laughed when I saw it, but an hour later, it was gone. The site said it broke their rules on hate speech. I don't think it was hateful, just sharp humor. This got me and my pals talking about who decides what's okay online. In my view, if we're too quick to ban stuff, we lose out on real talk. Your mileage may vary, but I feel like free speech is on thin ice these days.

My cousin's meme got axed on Instagram yesterday, same ridiculous hate speech rule.

Last month, I saw a meme about toast get removed for 'violence'. Instagram's bots are on a power trip, I swear. Your cousin's meme probably just had a dark joke that went over their heads. At this rate, we'll all be banned for posting cat videos with sarcastic captions. Maybe we need a meme bailout fund, lmao.
