The day Ireland voted Yes changed how I see meme bans

Back in 2015 I was sharing those 'Marriage Ref' memes about the same sex vote. After the results came in, people started reporting them left and right for being 'offensive'. Nothing changed in the meme itself, but the whole mood flipped overnight. By 2016 half my feed was gone. Facebook never told me why, just 'community standards'. I lived in Dublin at the time and watched a local group get nuked for posting a joke about the result. It felt like the platform decided the debate was over so all jokes had to die too. Has anyone else noticed that once a topic becomes legal or settled, the memes about it get scrubbed harder than before?
