Hot take: a dorm RA in Ann Arbor shut down our voter sign-up table and I am still mad about it
Two friends and I set up a table outside the Michigan Union with 40 blank registration forms and a hand-painted sign that said "Register to Vote Here." A dorm RA walked over and said we could not table there without a permit and that our sign counted as "political activity" in a student space. She called campus safety on us after we asked who to talk to about the permit, and we packed up with 35 forms still blank. Here is my take: a public college that takes federal money should not be able to make a 20 year old get a permit to help people vote, period. Has anyone fought an RA or campus office over a rule like this and actually won?
