Switched my forge blower from a hand crank to a $40 hair dryer rig and my welds went from grey to clean in 2 weeks
Two weeks ago I got tired of fighting the hand crank on my coal forge while trying to hold a heat on a scroll. I rigged up an old hair dryer on a dimmer switch with some duct tape and a pipe clamp, total cost about $40. Before, I was losing heat between cranks and my welds came out grey and crumbly half the time. After the switch, I can hold a steady 3 pound heat for a full minute without touching anything, and my last 4 fire welds came out clean on the first try. Anyone else running a blower setup like this, and did you bother putting a gate on it or just use the dimmer?
