Unpopular opinion: a coal forge taught me more in 2 months than my gas forge did all year, but my lungs say otherwise
My mentor Dale up in Erie told me last Tuesday that guys who learn on coal read the fire better because they have to watch the color and the smoke, and I think he might be onto something after 2 months at his place. But the flip side is I came home smelling like a chimney and my wife made me strip in the garage, plus I coughed black stuff for a week. So is the coal fire really teaching me more, or am I just romanticizing something that a good gas setup with a thermocouple does just fine?
