Heard a guy at my FLGS say 'roll to seduce' unironically
I was at Game Theory in Raleigh last Saturday. Dude in the corner, playing D&D with his group. He actually said 'I roll to seduce the dragon.' Dead serious. His DM just stared at him for like 10 seconds. Then the whole table lost it. Makes me wonder how many people actually try that at real tables. Has anyone else witnessed a cringey roleplay moment that killed the mood?

Maybe the real issue is DMs not setting ground rules at session zero. If everyone agrees on a tone beforehand, stuff like this doesn't blindside the table.

Counterpoint - sometimes a LITTLE absurdity keeps a game from getting boring. @smith.jordan I get where you're coming from but if your DM is letting a nat 20 turn a dragon into a boyfriend that's a table issue not a player problem. A good DM can roll with a joke and then pivot right back to serious stakes without ruining anything. Maybe that dragon just plays along for a second then roasts the bard for being dumb. Session zero matters but so does knowing when to LET the game be FUN instead of a strict simulator.

Yeah but honestly I think the real cringe is when DMs actually let it work. I've seen a player roll a nat 20 on seduction and the DM just goes 'okay the dragon is into it now' like that's how dragons work. It just turns the whole game into a joke and ruins any serious tone the group was trying to build.
