I picked a pick-up game over a tournament and it changed my Saturday

Last weekend I had the choice between joining a local Warhammer 40k tournament at Dice House in Portland or just sitting down for a casual pickup game with strangers. I went with the pickup game because I was tired of the pressure and wanted to test a weird Ork list I built. We played three matches, and one guy taught me a trick with terrain blocking line of sight that I never thought about. It was more fun than any tournament I've done, so now I'm wondering if I should just stick to casual nights. Has anyone else dumped competitive play for the chill side and regretted or loved it?

Hold on, are we really calling a casual game of plastic soldiers a life-changing event? You picked the fun option over the stressful option and now you're questioning your whole hobby path. I get the terrain trick thing, that's genuinely useful, but one good Saturday doesn't mean tournaments are garbage. I've had absolute stinkers in casual games where nobody moved their models right and it was pure boredom. Give it a few weeks and the tournament itch will probably come back, they're just a different kind of fun.
