The guy at GenCon who told me I was playing wrong really got to me

I was at a booth demoing a new worker placement game in Indy last August, and this older guy leans over my shoulder and goes "you're supposed to place your meeple on the action space first, then pay the cost." I had been doing it the other way for three turns. He didn't even ask if I wanted help, just corrected me mid-game. It made me wonder, has anyone else run into people who treat casual demos like a tournament?

Ugh, yeah that's the worst. Demos are supposed to be chill, not a rules lecture from some random guy.

Barbara brings up a good point, and I've learned the hard way that you have to shut that down quick. Next time just smile and say "Thanks, I'm figuring it out as I go" without stopping your turn, because most people will back off when they realize you're not asking for help. @barbara_taylor83 is right that demos are supposed to be low pressure, so don't let one pushy guy ruin your fun.
