Field engineer told me my welds looked 'pretty but weak' after 8 years on the job

Had a QC guy from the client come through last month on a big tank job outside Tulsa. He watched me run a vertical pass and waited until I finished to say it. Said my beads were textbook perfect but he could tell I was dragging too slow, getting too much heat soak. I was salty at first. Then he showed me a porosity spot I missed near the cap on my last weld. Turns out I was putting flash over function. I switched my travel speed and dropped the amperage by about 15 points the next day. My x-rays came back clean for the first time in months. Anyone else get humbled by some pencil pusher who turned out to be right?
