Foreman's comment about my weld beads made me switch grinders
He said my beads looked like bird poop and handed me a flapper disc, told me to stop chasing perfection with the angle grinder. Swapped to a 4.5 inch for finish passes on that 2 inch plate job in Gary, Indiana, and my stress levels dropped. Anyone else get called out for over-grinding at a specific step?

Heard a guy on a podcast say the real trick is knowing when the grinder is for shaping and when it's for finishing. Sounds like your foreman just saved you a bunch of time and wrist pain. I've seen guys burn through a whole disc on one pass just trying to make it look like it came out of a machine, then the inspector still walks by and says it's too smooth. That bird poop comment is harsh but it's basically the old school way of saying you're overthinking it. Sometimes the weld is fine, the bead just needs to be knocked down enough so the paint sticks.
