Dropped $260 on a fancy grow light, my peppers still sulked

I bought a full spectrum LED panel from a shop in Portland back in March, figured my seedlings would love it after watching all those hype videos. Turned out the PAR output was half of what the label claimed, and my pepper starts stayed pale and leggy for six weeks. I only caught it when a friend brought over a cheap lux meter and we measured it together. Anyone else get burned by grow light marketing that looks good but underdelivers?

...and that right there is why I stopped trusting any light that doesn't show a real spectrogram. The whole PAR thing is a mess, most cheap meters don't even read it right. My rule now is simple: if the company won't show you third party test results, assume it's a rebranded sticker job. You got burned, but honestly, $260 is a cheap lesson compared to what some folks drop on those pro units. Take it from someone who's been through three of these things, just buy the one your local hydro shop actually uses on their own shelves.
