My old soil testing method is missing half the picture, here's how I caught it

For like 6 years I just checked pH and called it done before planting anything. Then last spring I started losing tomato seedlings left and right, one batch after another. Turns out my tap water was the issue, it was locking out nutrients no matter what the soil said. Now I test the water runoff after watering, not just the dry dirt, and it's been night and day since. Has anyone else had this happen with city water vs well water?
