Overheard someone say pruning is just haircuts for plants

I was at the garden center picking up mulch and this older lady told her friend that pruning is just haircuts for plants, which honestly made me laugh but also stuck with me all day. I went home and tried her approach on my leggy rosemary bush, trimming with the same mindset as I would my own split ends, and it bounced back way faster than my usual anxious snips. Has anyone else heard a dumb-simple comparison that fixed how you treat your plants?

That lady was onto something. I started treating my overgrown mint like a bad shag haircut and just went for it, cutting way more than I normally would. The plant came back thicker and happier than it ever was when I was doing my timid little snips. Now I walk around my garden thinking about what needs a trim versus what needs a full chop. My basil looks like a terrible bowl cut right now but it's thriving. Sometimes dumbing down the whole thing is the secret.
