Switched to bottom watering for my succulents and it fixed my overwatering habit

I killed three batches of echeveria over 2 years because I kept watering from the top and the soil stayed soggy. A guy at a plant swap in Tucson told me to try bottom watering with a shallow tray for 20 minutes. Now I only fill the tray once the soil feels bone dry and the roots pull up what they need. It took about 6 weeks to see new root growth, but the rot stopped completely. Anyone else made the switch and noticed a different water schedule working better for their setup?
