TIL my monstera's new leaf took 19 days to unfurl and I checked it every single morning
Two weeks ago I noticed a little spike poking out of my monstera and started a dumb phone note tracking it, and this morning it finally opened into a leaf the size of my hand. The weird part is the unfurling happened overnight, so all my 7am checks showed nothing and then boom, it was just open. Does anyone know if room temp or light actually speeds up that unfurling stage, or is it just a waiting game?
Plants seem to love doing stuff when we're not watching. Same thing happens with bread dough or those paperwhite bulbs people force in jars, you stare at it for days and nothing, then you walk away for one afternoon and it doubles. Idk if it's room temp or light that matters most for the unfurl, maybe warmth helps a little since plants move faster when it's warm, but the overnight thing is real. A lot of plants do their growing in the dark, they push out new tissue when the lights are off because that's when cells stretch the most. So your 7am checks were always gonna miss it, you were basically checking right after it finished. Kind of a nice reminder that some things just need you to stop hovering.
