Tried to stretch a $20 grocery run with dried beans and set off my smoke alarm twice
Tried to stretch a $20 grocery run into a whole week of dinners with dried beans instead of cans, and soaked a pound of them overnight in my tiny Denver kitchen. I dumped them in a pot the next evening, walked away to fold laundry, and came back to a scorched mess and the smoke alarm screaming at me. How do you all keep dried beans from turning into charcoal when you're cooking on a cheap coil stove that runs hot?
